Sept. 4, 1942

Pat Robertson relieved me on Ranges in afternoon and Col. Hunter, Capt. Railton, the Padre, and I drove through Porlock and Exmoor to Lynmouth, then down the Glenn Valley to Lorna Doone Farm, then to Lorna Doone Bower – in the Doone Valley – once more visited Oare Church – then returned home – gorgeous trip. In the evening, Railton, John Begg, Timmy, Freddie Jenner, Poopdeck, Dave Clapperton, Johnnie Cross and I sat in my tent and talked until about eleven, when we all went to bed.
