Dec. 8, 1942

Caught a bus to Washington and was met at bus station by Mrs. Earl in her car. She is a journalist. Mrs. Vera Denise Earl. Her husband is an artist. They have a fifty-acre estate and have thirty houses on it – rented by Lords and Actors to live in at weekends and in the summer. They also have a hotel. The whole place is known as Sleepy Hollow. Very lovely. Had dinner there and later in the evening Jim Furman and Perc Wakeford came out for me in my Jeep.
